Impressions {the other side of the lens}

Believe it or not I'm really really bad about taking personal photos during the holidays so surprisingly my December "Impressions" post isn't holiday related at all. Besides the professional family photos we have taken every year, I like to stay behind the lens. I'm rarely "camera-ready" and feel lucky if I get a shower and my teeth brushed. But it hit me recently that one day my children will look back on all the candid photos I take of them and wonder "Where's Mom??". SO I forced myself to set up my camera the best I could and take a few snapshots of us with my wireless remote. They're not perfect at all - the focus is off, my son isn't wearing pants, and my hair is sloppy, but my kids won't care about that when they look at these photos 20 years from now. s_lifestyle_family_photography_huntsville_al_0098.jpg

Impressions {a personal project}

‘Impressions‘ is a creative project by an eclectic group of female photographers from around the globe. We aim to share the inspiration behind what we do through our monthly posts. On the 8th of each month, we will be sharing images that tell the story of what inspired us in the previous weeks: our families, nature, weather, or maybe even work itself! We are free to explore the meaning of ‘impressions’, and it is likely to change month to month. I missed last month's post because I was busy with a newborn so I'm cheating a little bit and going to share more starting with my little girl's birth.

Splish Splash {Huntsville Lifestyle Photography}

These photos of my sweet boy are from Sept of last year.  I meant to post them but just never got around to it.  In fact life got so busy, I got very behind on my personal pics, but I'm caught up now after sorting through thousands and thousands of photos. Whew.  I just couldn't help but share these bath photos even if they are "out of date". ;)

Round Two...

I have a couple little bits of exciting news to share before Spring gets here...

I'm pregnant!! Baby #2 will be here in September!  YAY!!  I'm excited and a little nervous at the same time.  :)  So that of course means I will be taking a few months off at the end of the Summer (Aug-Oct) and availability other months may be very limited.  Which brings me to my exciting news #2:

I'm doing it again since it was loved last year! I love my clients and want to offer a little something extra. I'm having a special mini session event on April 6th for 2013 clients only and the best part - it's FREE. And that includes the digital images. Awesome. So if you book a session anytime in 2013, you get to participate! If you've been thinking about booking, now is the time to take advantage of this deal!

Contact me to book your session.  Availability is limited and spots are filling up.

Dirty Dishes

This post has just been sitting in my drafts for a couple of weeks because it makes me nervous but here it goes... I'm baring my soul and my imperfections. And for some reason I feel led to share. Lately I've felt overwhelmed, stressed, busy, uninspired, and I just can't live up to the expectations I've set for myself to be SuperMommy/Wife. The regular ordinary everyday "stuff" - you know toddler sleep issues, never ending dirty dishes, holiday stresses, messy house, biz to-do lists, etc led me to have a little silly "moment" the other day while I was filling up the sink of dirty dishes with soapy water once again. Granted these are silly things to get stressed about (even more so when I look back on this) and my family is extremely blessed but for some reason those everyday things just get to me sometimes. My "moment" ended just in time for me to catch the water and turn it off just before it was about to overflow and it reminded me that when you turn to God, He will never give you more than you can handle. That He may let your "sink" get full but will never let it overflow. ♥ So I decided to let God take care of my "dirty dishes" and not to let all the little things bother me because He is taking care of me. "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)

The Wall That Brightens My Everyday

If you follow me on Facebook you've probably seen this before and know that my wall recently won Reader's Choice vote in Laura Winslow's Wall Art Love Contest. Thank you thank you thank you to all who voted for me!! I'm so honored and thrilled to be chosen!!! So here it is: the wall that makes me smile everyday when I see it.

And this wall would not have been possible without the beautiful photos by Abby Gray Photography and Lauren Sanderson Photography.

Here's a few questions I've been asked about the wall. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Where did you get the frames? Etsy! Most were from this seller. I did paint a couple of my own frames to match too.

How did you come up with the design? I ordered a bunch of random frames first then started arranging them over and over and over again on the floor. I worked on this on and off for about 6 months. I got frustrated several times with this! Seriously - I never thought I would get the darn thing up! I have 2 sides to me - an engineering side and a creative side - and these two sides were battling the entire time! lol. I wanted random but balanced and I finally got there! What finally helped is when I started placing the large frames first and then filled in with the smaller frames. Finally it just "felt right". :)  And of course I had to get the approval of my final design with my talented interior designer friend.

Is there glass in the frames? Nope! I wanted to make these as light as possible and I'm just not a big fan of glass.  I did get the prints printed with a protective lustre coating and had them mounted on matboard.

How did you hang all those frames? Call me crazy but I used command strips.  There are no holes in the wall! Woohoo!  I'm a big fan of these little buddies and all frames have been up for 6 months and we haven't had any fall down.

How did you order prints for the oval frames? Welll... I just ordered a print size closest to the oval dimensions then cut out the oval with kitchen scissors. Nothing fancy at all! :)

NOW GO and start on your own wall!! I promise all the hard work will be worth it!

Life Lately

It's been a little dead here on the blog. I've been taking advantage of some great family time together lately. And all my sessions lately have been rescheduled due to that heat we had! 105 degrees! Nobody wants to be sweaty for photos! ;) I have many sessions coming up soon so the blog will be getting lots of love then. In the meantime, here's another collage of what's been going on in my life lately. My son is 11 months old and I'm getting all emotional that he's going to be ONE next month! It can't be!!! I'm not ready for this! I want him to stay a baby forever! :)

Life Lately...

I haven't posted any personal photos in a long time so here's a big collage from the past few months. I really loved putting this together because I could relive each of these little moments over again. :) Most of these photos are just everyday shots I take around the house so quality isn't perfect but the memories captured in them make the photos perfect to me. :) I'm going to try and make this a monthly thing so you can get a glimpse into what's going on in my life and because my boy is just too cute not to share! ;)

Staying home...

You may or may not know this but photography has been a side thing for me - My day job has been a software engineer... until now! Now my full time job is being a stay at home mom! I can hardly believe it myself - If someone had told me a few years ago that I would be a SAHM I wouldn't have believed it. Things change! And I'm so excited! And nervous. But most of all I am extremely BLESSED to have this opportunity! Of course I'll still being doing photography but being a mommy and wife is number one! I'll be starting out with a small number of sessions per month and gradually adding more until I find that "happy" number for me. Because of this, it's best to book about 1-2 months in advance.

Love, Adrienne

Little Big Things

It's amazing how the smallest details can hold such a huge place in your heart. Little baby eyelashes, little baby lips, and little baby spit bubbles - I'm taking every little inch of him in.
